What we log
Page URL, referrer, browser type, and a coarse country code. No raw IP is stored past 30 days. We use this to fix bugs.
Affarion is a Star Wars fan site, not a data broker. We collect the bare minimum to keep the forum healthy and the lore guides fast. This printout shows exactly what that means. No fine print traps. No tracking salami slices.
// APPROVED FOR PUBLIC RECORD //Page URL, referrer, browser type, and a coarse country code. No raw IP is stored past 30 days. We use this to fix bugs.
Comments, forum posts, fan submissions, and email if you join the newsletter. You choose to share each one. We store the bare minimum.
We do not buy data. We do not run cross-site ad pixels. We do not sell your reading list to a Sith holding company. Hard pass.
Affarion is an independent Star Wars fan site. We are not Lucasfilm. We are not Disney. We run on a small editor team and the community.
This page tells you what we collect and why. It also tells you how to opt out, export, or delete your data. No legal jargon games.
It just works.
We collect three buckets. Anonymous analytics. Account data if you sign up. Content you post on the forum or in comments.
Analytics include the page URL, referrer, screen size, and rough country. We hash any IP within seven days. We delete the hash at 30 days.
Account data is your display name, your email, and a hashed password. We never store your raw password. We never see it in plain text.
Posts you publish stay live on the site. That is the point of a forum.
We use analytics to spot broken pages. A failing chapter index is no good to anyone. The aggregate counts also show us which lore guides land.
We use account data to keep you signed in, alert you to reply threads, and protect against spam.
We use content data to power discussion. That is the whole site.
We set one session cookie when you log in. It expires on logout or after 30 days idle.
We set one preference cookie for theme and spoiler-blur settings. You control it from your profile.
We do not set ad cookies. We do not embed third-party trackers in articles. Embeds for official trailers load only when you click play.
Our hosting provider stores the database. Our email provider sends the newsletter. Both have signed processor agreements.
We share nothing else. No data brokers. No ad networks. No marketing partners.
If a court orders disclosure, we will tell you unless the order forbids it.
You must be 16 or older to register. The forum talks about violent scenes, mature themes, and major spoilers. Parents, please check before letting under-16s sign up.
If we learn a minor has registered, we close the account and wipe the data.
Send a note to our data desk. We reply inside three working days. Include your account name so we can find the right file. We never ask for your password.
